The Penis Festival started thousands of years ago in a place that is presently called Tyrnavo, (A small town in the prefecture of Larissa in Greece).
The festival started before recorded history so no one actually knows how it all began. The little village of Tyrnavo in Greece has gone through many changes in the past 4 thousand years, But the Penis Festival has endured. Even in the past when the village was under Turkish rule, the Turkish public held on to the festival and kept it going. I guess the importance of the penis is something that transends cultural boundaries.
